I n January 1950, the then-four-year old skincare brand Estée Lauder arrived in Dallas at the downtown flagship of Neiman Marcus with a personal appearance by late founder Estée Lauder, marking the start of a 64-year relationship. Last month, in celebration of this long-term relationship, Estée's son Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of Estée Lauder, journeyed with British actress and brand ambassador Elizabeth Hurley to Neiman Marcus NorthPark to unveil the Estée Lauder Shop. The celebration previewed the limited-edition Celebration of Style 2014 Solid Perfume and Pressed Powder Collection, which includes four of the former and six of the latter. Styles exclusive to Neiman Marcus are two powder compacts (Sapphire Sparklers and Shining Stars) and two perfume compacts (Festive Cocktail and Precious Jewels). Arriving later this year will be the Modern Muse perfume compact and the Evelyn Lauder Dream compact, both benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), which was founded by the late Evelyn Lauder. $49.50 to $300, at Neiman Marcus NorthPark, neimanmarcus.com. S ummer in the city — for most, it's time to escape the heat and head to a faraway exotic destination, cool off in Aspen or travel through Europe, but for many underprivileged kids it's the toughest time of the year. No school quite literally means no food. So, save the date: Friday, September 19, for Harvest, the first annual event to benefit North Texas Food Bank. When co-chairs Nancy Gopez and Kristi Bare asked if PaperCity would sponsor, I certainly didn't need to think twice. Harvest will be a tasty charitable affair, hosted at the newly renovated Dallas Farmers Market with delicious food stations and decor by Todd Events. Want to help hungry children right now? Then visit ntfb.org. So, why do we take vacations? To relax? Seeking inspiration is equally as important. Case in point, for our feature "Inspiring Destinations," we asked a coterie of creative souls to share their inspirational travel stories. If you're not traveling this summer, perhaps you're busy nesting at home; in our House + Art section, "The Achingly Chic Casbah" story is the embodiment of design and travel inspiration. I myself will be seeking inspiration with my family. I'm off to visit my sister and nephew in a small town just outside Lisbon in Portugal — my fourth trip to a country that is rich in historic grandeur. But, I will be back in time for Independence Day; as a British-American, I do plan to celebrate independence from myself! I wish you all a wonderful July 4th and an inspiring summer. It all began with photographer Slim Aarons' iconic Poolside Gossip image. Shot in 1970 at a home designed by modernist architect Richard Neutra, this image is one of many that Aarons shot to capture beautiful people doing beautiful things — in their villas, yachts and seaside sprawls. Enter Napoleon Perdis … The Australian makeup whiz worked with the Aarons family and Getty Images to secure the rights to Poolside Gossip, his inspiration for his limited-edition collection of essentials that recreate the sun-kissed glow synonymous with '70s resort glamour. Tucked inside a travel bag emblazoned with the famous photograph are Champagne Days Cream Highlighter, Matte Bronzer, Entitled Cream Lipstick and Two-Faced Eyeliner Duo (the latter, flicked with turquoise and emerald).
