OCTOBER | PAGE 41 | 2014 Museum of Art, the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU and Fort Worth Modern; he also serves on the Program Advisory Committee of the Nasher Sculpture Center. Lindsey is on the board of CineMarfa and Glasstire. McFarlain was a perfect fit to incorporate Patrick and Lindsey's growing contemporary art collection into the house's classic bones. "He's worked with a lot of art collectors, and he has the taste level that you want when you are showing fine art," Lindsey says. McFarlain is also in his 30s, which made it easier for Patrick and Lindsey to relate to him. "We needed someone young like Brant who would listen to what we needed and be more of a collaborative," Patrick says. Their combined vision produced sleek and glamorous rooms that dazzle on multiple levels: intimate, richly hued nooks for hiding out, playing music, working or reading; chic and spacious areas for entertaining; and carefully considered floor and wall space to showcase artwork. Although they have an extensive collection with important pieces, Lindsey and Patrick didn't plan the interior design around their art. In fact, they barely mentioned the collection to McFarlain, which at the time was warehoused, and includes works by Tom Burr, Pedro Reyes, Dan Finsel and Jill Magid. "They told me they had art, but all I knew was that some of it was big, bright and neon," McFarlain says. Instructions were short and to the point: Create a quiet design with ample wall space and good lighting. "What was fun about it was they had no preconceived notions, and they were open to new ideas," he says. "I had a lot of room to be creative. The whole project was really refreshing."
