BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY HAYNSWORTH PHOTOGRAPHY. COUNTRY ROCKS AT DECEMBER | PAGE 28 | 2014 CATTLE BARON'S NO SHOES, NO SHIRT, NO PROBLEMS. Such were the wise words from country great Kenny Chesney. As this year's headliner for the 2014 Cattle Baron's Ball, he set the bar high for an evening packed with punches. Channeling the cowboy-chic dress code, I brushed off my Luccheses, grabbed a fringed frock and headed to The Cedars district, where the Ball was staged indoors at Gilley's, for the first time in Cattle Baron's history. After last year's muddy melée, it made sense to seek shelter. The chicest cowgirls on the scene were co-chairs Cindy Stager and Jill Tananbaum, who greeted guests in turquoise, embroidered boots and lashings of leather, then two-stepped their way into the show-stopping venue. A regal roundup of VIPs weaved their way from the silent auction room to the live auction stage — each venue bigger and better than the last, thanks to event designer Robert Hayden. With their eyes on the prize, guests perused the silent auction items. Ladies placed their bids on Bachendorf's watches, Judith Leiber clutches and fine jewelry courtesy of Dallas Auction Gallery, while cowboys bid on baseball season tickets and signed Cowboy footballs. Meanwhile, a lively crowd raised their paddles at the live auction, vying for a classically restored car, courtesy of Gas Monkey Garage; a trip to London to attend Victoria's Secret Fashion Show; Canyon Ranch getaways; and Kentucky Derby weekends (Longines watches included). Those not ensconced in bidding wars enjoyed tunes from Sam Moore and Mockingbird Sun as they mingled with the festive crowd. The Texas-sized buffet featured Shiner Bock chili pie, chicken-fried chicken, roasted corn and honey-buttered biscuits, turning celebrants slightly slaphappy, as befit the main event of the evening: Kenny Chesney's performance. With libations in hand, guests ventured past the famed Ferris wheel and into a tent where the country legend rocked the house down. Chesney's greatest hits — including "Pirate Flag," "I Go Back," "Beer in Mexico" and, of course, "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" — had everyone boot scootin.
