BALLOONS, BUBBLES AND MULBERRY BY MAX TROWBRIDGE. PHOTOGRAPHY BRUNO. A shiny cluster of golden balloons shaped like the iconic Mulberry Bayswater bag floated above guests at the Mulberry boutique opening fête in NorthPark Center. The Mulberry Craft Bar was a huge draw: After signing a disclaimer that one should not bash one's own thumb too hard with a tiny hammer, guests eagerly settled down with tools and leather wrist straps to hammer out his or her own unique design — much banging, bashing and hammering ensued. Adorned in multiple leather straps with cocktails in hand, hosts Brooke Hortenstine, Katherine Reeves, and Capera Ryan celebrated with Mulberry USA president Carl Barbato, while guests took photobooth snapshots and shared via @mulberry_editor, #mulberrydallas. Of course, the real stars of the show were Mulberry's bags, totes and leather accessories in primary shades of red, orange, green and blue, plus the calf-hair backpacks from the Cara Delevingne collection. Near the ready-to-wear collection, DJ Lucy Wrubel spun tunes, all for a good cause, as 10 percent of sales that evening benefitted North Texas Food Bank. With new creative director Johnny Coca, formerly of Céline, joining the team later in 2015 and former Barneys fashion director Julie Gilhart recently hired as non-executive director, the quintessential British leather-goods brand from the rolling hills of Somerset is set to make it big in the U.S., and specifically Dallas.
