SISTERS ARE DOIN' IT FOR THEMSELVES The Goss-Michael Foundation, akin to all things British, would certainly agree with those lyrics. Sisters Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, Kari Schlegel Kloewer and Krystal Schlegel will take the rock 'n' roll lead as chairs for MTV Re:Define 2015 in April — the first time they've chaired an event together. So, why agree to chair the event? "I remember the first time I had dinner with Kenny [Goss]," Krystal says. "We were in London in 2008, and he asked if he could bring Ginger Spice [Geri Halliwell], as well. I sat next to her and talked about contemporary art and fashion, and how as a teenager, I dreamed of a career in the style industry. So, naturally, I always say 'Yes' to Kenny." The sisters have a lot to top — last year's third annual MTV Re:Define raised $2 million, with honored artist Richard Phillips curating the music; Jerry Hall attended and dazzled, and Julian Schnabel's painting Theory of Relativity sold for $175,000. The event's blend of contemporary art and rock 'n' roll never loses sight of its mission. "Supporting a worthy cause such as the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which educates youth around the world about HIV and AIDS prevention through the power of music, is inspirational," Kim says. "Knowledge is power, and we should always empower the young." As for star power — or, in this instance, sister power — each chairman is unique in her career and circle of friends. Kim is an entertaining go-to girl with six books on the subject and regular appearances on the Today Show; Krystal, who pens the fashion blog krystalschlegel.com, also creates her own floral designs through her business Flowers by Krystal. "Who wouldn't want an entertaining expert and a fashion blogger as her partners when planning an event that celebrates creativity and highlights fantastic art and memorable music, all for such wonderful causes," enthuses Kari, a realtor with Allie Beth Allman & Associates. MTV Re:Define was founded in 2011 by The Goss-Michael Foundation, The Future Tense and MTV Staying Alive Foundation, with the 2015 iteration benefitting the latter foundation, as well as the Dallas Contemporary, and honoring renowned British artist Michael Craig-Martin (read our interview with MCM on papercitymag.com). Auctioneer Alexander Gilkes of Paddle8 returns for a second year. So, save the date and join the Schlegel sisters and hosts Kenny Goss and Joyce Goss on Friday, April 10, 2015, 7 pm, at The Goss-Michael Foundation, 1405 Turtle Creek Blvd. Information 214.696.0555, mtvredefine.com, stayingalivefoundation.org, dallascontemporary.org.
