BROWSING THE AISLES AT HOUSTON ANTIQUES + ART + DESIGN SPRING FAIR IT WAS GREAT TO SEE DEAR OLD FRIENDS LOUIS, DUNCAN AND ANNE. ANNE LEE PHILLIPS TREASURE HUNTS. PHOTOGRAPHY MORRIS MALAKOFF, DANIEL ORTIZ. Portuguese lettuce ware, Fornasetti plates, marble busts, mahogany bureaus, ruby necklaces. Riches abounded in the stunning room vignettes from more than 75 pedigreed exhibitors, spanning the country from Florida to California, at the spring edition of the Houston Antiques + Art + Design Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center. One of the oldest antique shows in America (it was previously the HADA Antiques Show), this was the second iteration from new owner Dolphin Promotions (which is responsible for the famed Palm Springs Modernism and Los Angeles Modernism shows). Inspiring lectures added to the shopping fun, including a discussion on how to utilize antiques in contemporary environments, moderated by decorator Janus Lazaris, with designer panelists Suzanne Duin, Linda Eyles, and Texas Gulf Coast chapter ASID prez Letecia Ellis. The newly minted curator of Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, Bradley Brooks, gave an overview of philanthropist Ima Hogg's treasures and the conversion of her stately home (an architectural gem itself) into a museum. Even the most advanced collectors were all ears — after all, she is responsible for one of the nation's best collections of American antiques. Houston exhibitors included: Laurence Anderson of Made in France, Dianne Josephs of Atelier Fifteen- O-Five, Josie and Fred Nevill of Antiques of River Oaks, antiquarian David Lackey; David Lewis, Ernest Maese, and Tom Furlan of Lewis & Maese, Past Era Antique Jewelry's Marion Glober, The Antique Company, Clifton House Antiques, Golden Chances, Majolica, Robert E. Alker Fine Art and Roger Howard Estate Sales. Had to have it at HAADS: Jackson Hicks and Milton Townsend, designer Ed Harris, MFAH director Gary Tinterow, Krispin's Pamela Parker, Alton LaDay and Jonathon Glus; Elise and Denzil Hollingsworth, James Campbell, John Marrs, Rosemary Krieger, Charlie Walter, Richard Dawson, Lisa Roark, Gayle Klaybor, and Lisa Slappey.
