"Bejewelled, Kate Moss, by Mario Testino is TDF [to die for]!" — Krystal Schlegel "Umbrella (blue), 2011, by Michael Craig-Martin and Eddie Peake's Baroque Tedium, 2013." — Christen Wilson "I went local with the feminine charm of Michelle Rawling's small figure painting." — Anais Assoun JUNE | PAGE 7 | 2015 SOUND. STYLE. I t was sensory overload at The Goss-Michael Foundation when all the cool kids came to gaze and bid on more than 100 works of art up for auction at the fourth annual MTV Re:Define, all to benefit the Dallas Contemporary and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation (an international organization dedicated to stopping the spread of HIV among young people via global media content and grant giving). Spearheading the evening's thrills were MTV Staying Alive Foundation executive director Georgia Arnold; hosts Joyce Goss and Kenny Goss; event chairs Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, Kari Schlegel Kloewer, and Krystal Schlegel; and art chairman Elisabeth Karpidas. Midnight Rambler-crafted cocktails fueled contemplation and discourse on the contemporary works curated by Ed Bartlett of The Future Tense and the Dallas Contemporary's Peter Doroshenko. The works up for auction were donated by well- established artists and up-and-comers alike, including honoree Michael Craig-Martin, Richard Phillips, and David Salle, as well as Nate Lowman and Dan Colen (music co-curators for the night), who all were present that evening. Other donated works were from Damien Hirst, Petra Cortright, Ian Davenport, Jim Lambie, Richard Patterson, Gérard Rancinan, Cindy Sherman, Mario Testino and Eddie Peake. "The energy and generosity of the artists and our guests was unbelievable," said Joyce Goss. The boyishly handsome Alexander Gilkes (British founder of Paddle8) conducted the live auction during dinner, after which sultry Lizzi Bougatsos and Sadie Laska took the stage with their band, I.U.D., rocking down the house with "Love Is All You Need" and "Don't Shoot." The evening chalked up an impressive $2.2 million — in addition to the $4 million already raised to date. As MTV itself might say: Too much is never enough. Swank set: Chandra Johnson, Laree Hulshoff, Ben Fischer, Kim Dodson, Franklin Boyd, David Morales, Gabriel Suarez, Jason and Dina Arnott, Jonathan Viner, Ron Corning, Jo Marie Lilly, Erin Cluley, John Jacobs, Laura and Rick Lear, Leisa Street, Nicole Musselman, Sue and Jimmy Gragg, and Michael Sills. "THE MOMENT OF THE EVENING THAT TOUCHED ME MOST WAS THE VIDEO OF OUR GREAT FRIEND, ARTIST MICHAEL CRAIG-MARTIN. HIS SURPRISE SEEING HIS GRANDSON IN THE VIDEO AND HAVING HIS DAUGHTER AT THE EVENT TRULY MADE MY HEART HAPPY." — Joyce Goss Alden Pinnell Joyce Goss Kenny Goss Georgia Arnold Muffin Lemak Claire Emanuelson Julie Hawes Nasiba Hartland- Mackie Anna- Sophia van Zweden Chair Kimberly Schlegel Whitman Chair Krystal Schlegel Chair Kari Schlegel Kloewer Hannah Freedberg Yvonne Force Villareal Michael Craig- Martin Jessica Craig- Martin Jessica Nowitzki Alexander Gilkes Brian Bolke Ed Bartlett Sheryl Maas Eric Maas Trinity Lewis Jeny Bania Christen Wilson Rajan Patel Shelle Sills Elisa Summers Stephen Summers Sami Arslanlar Andy Beal Olya Sinitsyna Howard Rachofsky Elisabeth Karpidas Melbourne O'Banion Jamie O'Banion Marguerite Hoffman Deedie Rose Cindy Rachofsky Nancy Carlson Nini Nguyen Dan Colen Nancy Rogers Michael Flores Richard Patterson Christina Rees Stephanie Roberts Allyson Cooke Capera Ryan Sharon Young Loc Truong Merry Vose John Clutts
