It was the hottest reservation in town, and it was at the new B&B Butchers & Restaurant on Washington Avenue. Host/owner Ben Berg pulled out all the stops for a preview dinner of his new steakhouse honoring Becca Cason Thrash and supporters of Best Buddies, the nonprofit that creates opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Making a statement from the moment guests arrived, two massive longhorn steers were lounging in front of the newly re- stored century-old Dittman building. Inside, champagne and conversation flowed as the crowd of influencers chatted about summer getaways to Spain, Switzerland and East Hampton, before settling down at four long tables (with place cards arranged by BCT) for Caesar salad, filet mignon with au poivre sauce, truffled mac and cheese and broccoli florets. The effervescent Becca recollected the successful soirées and special guests of Best Buddies' past (including pre-suspension Tom Brady) and revealed the headliner for the fall Best Buddies benefit chez Thrash: award-winning actor and House of Cards star Kevin Spacey (Save the date: November 7). Cheesecake and parting gifts — butcher knives with the adorable B&B logo — were passed around, and those who didn't want the night to end ordered more bottles of fine wine from the bar for a digestif and intime late- night gabfest. G eorge Clooney, a star of astronomical proportions, visited the Space City as brand ambassador of Omega for a spectacular dinner to honor the watch brand's commitment to space exploration. The Omega Speedmaster was the first watch worn on the moon and has accompanied astronauts on all six lunar landings. Omega was granted the Silver Snoopy Award from NASA for helping the crew of Apollo 13 return safely to earth after they shut down the onboard instruments to save power. Becca Cason Thrash, dressed in vintage Tom Ford, was seated with Clooney (she hosted a dinner for him three years ago), along with Omega CEO Stephen Urquhart, astronaut Gene Cernan, and Astronaut Wives Club actresses JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Yvonne Strahovski. Here's what they discussed: Thoughts on space movies: Loved Gravity and Apollo 13, not so much Space Cowboys — too Hollywood, said Cernan. The completely smitten Clooney was gushing over wife Amal, who was stuck in London working a complex legal case.
