SEPTEMBER | PAGE 92 | 2015 GIRLS NIGHT OUT, DESTINATION ST. BARTHS ANNE LEE PHILLIPS ON A PHILANTHROPIC AFFAIR. PHOTOGRAPHY ALEXANDER OF ALEXANDER'S. J anis and Andy Priest opened up their beautiful Tanglewood abode for the ninth annual Kissed By An Angel Girls Night Out, themed "Sunkissed in St. Barths." Janis and fellow chairs Heidi Binet, Anne Carl and Beth Harrell arranged for a steel-pan musician to greet the 200 guests, where A Fare Extraordinaire served up delicious Caribbean fare. A fun spin this year was the waitstaff: The husbands of major underwriters — Wayne Gross, Ricardo Peresquia, Todd Johnson, and Schuler Tilney, among others — served up the champagne. Ladies in breezy dresses enjoyed an al fresco performance by Wade Bowen and Reckless Kelly's Willy Braun. Let's hear it for the girls: The evening raised $140,000 for the Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer. Clayton's angels: Amy Ryan, Mindy Hildebrand, Bonnie Likover, Elise Reckling, Pepper Edens, Marita Fairbanks, Angie Reckling, Laura Fondren, Robin Wombwell, Shawnna Fatjo, and Shelby Dabney. PHOTOGRAPHY PRISCILLA DICKSON AND JACOB POWER. N early a thousand people convened at Hilton Americas-Houston for one of spring's most hallowed social events: The Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Award Dinner, presented by Holocaust Museum Houston. The award was bestowed posthumously to diplomats Feng-Shan Ho, Chinese consul general in Vienna, and Chiune Sugihara, vice consul for Japan in Lithuania, for their noble efforts to save thousands of European Jews by issuing visas during World War II. Honorary chair Li Qiangmin, consul general of the People's Republic of China in Houston, presented the awards to Ho's daughter, Manli Ho, and Sugihara's granddaughter, Madoka Sugihara. The evening was chaired by Nancy and Jack Dinerstein, along with co-chairs Nancy Li and Soner Tarim and Tracy and Brian Kapiloff, who channeled Asian inspiration for the decor: an abundance of Japanese and Chinese lanterns, with centerpieces crafted from chopsticks and bamboo. Ellen Rodman, writer/producer (formerly of The New York Times) and co-author of Pepper, Silk and Ivory: Amazing Stores about Jews and the Far East, delivered the keynote address. Dancers and a Chinese band courtesy of the Oriental Arts Education Center and soloist Iris Wei topped off the evening, which raised $1.3 million toward the Holocaust Museum's coffers. Seen: Arthur Schechter, Meir Shlomo, Yumin Zhao, Theresa Chang, Susan Soussan, Peter Berkowitz, Sue and Lester Smith, Ginger Blanton, Gail and Milton Klein, Susan Bischoff, Andrea White, and Heidi and David Gerger.
