F or its one-year anniversary, Lab Art Texas packed major punch: More than 450 guests viewed the megawatt exhibit "By Way of Dallas" from Dallas is Dallas, an urban collective led by Hance Taplin, Jordan Rogers and Chris Whitten that focuses on apparel and imagery. Dallas is Dallas also launched its capsule collection of artfully embellished Type 001 bikes with City Bicycle Co. The benefit for Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts saw a line trailing out the door, little elbow room inside and a crowd of art visionaries, including musician Erykah Badu, the Sour Grapes graffiti crew, DJ Sober, and artists Blue the Great, Jeremy Biggers, and Joonbug. THE BACKSTORY: Lab Art Texas, which spans 45,000 square feet in the Dallas Design District, is the second largest street gallery in the country — the first being the original Lab Art Los Angeles. Since Lab Art Texas co- founders and co-owners Adam Persiani and Eric Rosiak opened the gallery a year ago, it's proven to be a game-changer. "Dallas has such a vibrant art scene," says Persiani, "but we noticed most of our favorite artists weren't represented here. When Eric and I met Lab Art founder Iskander Lemseffer, we knew we had the right partner with all the right connections — and a reputation for the biggest and best gallery shows in Hollywood." These guys are golden, at the head of the vanguard and sitting on the hottest street-art hub in town. TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY RENATO RIMACH. EYES ON THE PRIZE … WHICH PIECE OF ART WOULD YOU SNATCH FROM THE GALLERY? "No question, it would be Annie Preece's 1957 Porsche Speedster 1600 Replica. I'm a big fan of her work, and I love her use of color here. It just makes you smile!" —Suzanne Droese "The Big Kiss by Niclas Castello. Niclas' work is celebrated around the world. Nearly every customer who walks through the doors of the gallery comments on the sculpture or takes a photo." — Eric Rosiak Adam Persiani DJ Sober, Erykah Badu Iskander Lemseffer Eric Rosiak Travis McCann Nick Adams Josh Fortuna Yesi Fortuna Devin Odell Eric Luiker Johnny Miller Chazz Huckabee Christine Cannistraci Johanan Merino Amy Havins Jeremy Biggers Jack Sheneman Kristin Sheneman Sabrina Dee Dorentina DJ Sober Erykah Badu Wade Havins Charlie Price Toni Martin F or 22 years, The Family Place has mobilized the city each fall to swipe for a cause during its Partners Card event — the organization's signature fund-raiser, which has raised more than $15 million toward its mission to end family violence. To kick off the 23rd annual shopping extravaganza, this year presented by Bank of Texas, chairs Melissa Boler, Debbie Munir, and Ashlee Weidner and honorary chair Rhonda Sargent Chambers hit the town, hosting a pair of parties in honor of the little Card that makes a big impact. Going Up: First was the North Sellers Soirée at IBB Design Fine Furnishings, hosted by IBB partner and interior designer Shay Geyer and store owner Beth Rafferty. The Family Place's top brass turned out, including CEO Paige Flink, VP of development Melissa Sherrill Martin and Partners Card development manager Heather Street Baker. Bank of Texas senior VP Mandy Austin addressed hundreds of Partners Card patrons, toasting The Family Place. Getting Down: More than 150 style-setters attended the South Sellers Soirée at Mulberry — NorthPark Center's British fashion and accessories jewel. DJ Lucy Wrubel spun vibrant beats, while guests delighted in all things Mulberry. (The new collection of biker pouches, designed in collaboration with English rock-star daughter and model Georgia May Jagger, was one of the most coveted.) During a brief shopping pause, Bank of Texas executive VP Bob White made some rather inspiring remarks to the crowd: "The Family Place is led by a dreamer," he said, "and all of you are dreamers." Philanthropic dreamers, indeed. NOVEMBER | PAGE 14 | 2015 FALL BACK, SHOP FORWARD BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY GEORGE FIALA.
