Primaries and pastels. Masculine-feminine. Voluminous yet structured. The last vestiges of fall collections advocate a flamboyant austerity in which fashion rules no longer apply. All reverence goes to the clothing itself, with each piece held up to its own eminent standard. Modernist architects have for years asserted that the shape of an object should be based on its function or purpose — ergo, decorative elements are superfluous. But why shouldn't ornamentation have its own function? There's an argument to be made that sometimes function can follow form. Distilled to its most basic precept, looking good is feeling good. And that is the most useful mandate of all. PHOTOGRAPHER SHAYNA FONTANA. ART DIRECTOR MICHELLE AVIÑA. STYLE EDITOR FRANCINE BALLARD. STYLIST DOUG VOISIN FOR IA AGENCY. MODELS MEG SAUNDERS FOR KIM DAWSON AGENCY AND EMMA HANCOCK FOR PAGE PARKES. ASSISTANT STYLISTS NATALIE MIZE AND KOURTLAND JORDAN. HAIR AND MAKEUP SHANE MONDEN FOR WALLFLOWER MANAGEMENT. LIGHTING BRAD BAKER. FORM OVER FUNCTION
