DONALD ROBERTSON LINDA RODIN'S FASHION MENAGERIE BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY KRISTINA BOWMAN. AND I t was a fashionable zoo when artist Donald Robertson and model and beauty maven Linda Rodin swept into town for a visit to Forty Five Ten. Veuve Clicquot flowed, as Art for Advocacy chairs Paige and John Slates and art chairs Holly Johnson and Cris Worley kicked off the Art for Advocacy fall auction, set for Saturday, November 7, benefitting Dallas Children's Advocacy Center. Robertson signed copies of his new children's book, Mitford at the Fashion Zoo, and showed off his limited-edition accessories collab with designer Richard Noura; the tote, wallet, travel case and tray — emblazoned with Robertson's illustration of Mitford the giraffe — are only available at Forty Five Ten and Colette in Paris. Forty Five Ten owner Brian Bolke also launched the store's fall campaign, Chic Dallas Ladies, with shopping bags colorfully adorned with Robertson's sketches of some of the city's most stylish. Social animals: Nancy Cohen Israel, Shannon Johnson, Dax Pass, Donna and Scott Letier, Martha Leonard, Lael Brodsky, Lisa Moore, Jamie Coulter, Shelle and Michael Sills, Courtney Sinelli, Melanie and Cameron Daugherty, Katherine Kruger, Jennie Reeves and Nick Westerman. NOVEMBER | PAGE 10 | 2015 FASHION, DALLAS AND THE POWER OF THE POPE FOR 30 GLORIOUS MINUTES, PAPERCITY'S LINDEN WILSON SHARED A TABLE AT THE T ROOM WITH DONALD ROBERTSON AND LINDA RODIN. Linda Rodin: Okay, so we're on the record? Donald Robertson: Yep, fully on the record. Wait until you hear how filthy Linda's mouth is. LR: Or stupid! I can sound stupid when I just talk. And boring! DR: Not boring. Not boring. Linden Wilson: Is this your first trip to Dallas? DR: Total crapshoot visit because Brian Bolke is so cool. LR: Donald just brought me into this storm. DR: We didn't realize what a monster business it is here. You guys buy stuff. Linda has already blown what she was going to make, here, on clothes — so it actually backfired. LR: I lose money everywhere I go! LW: You're here for a whirlwind trip. DR: Whirlwind. We both have dogs, and I've got five kids. The dogs, mostly, are like, "Where the hell are you?" LR: I'm just wondering how I'm going to get to the city from LaGuardia. The Pope's in town. DR: When I was trying to get my kids into private school in New York, I had great letters of reference because I knew Leonard Lauder. There was this lady — we were both trying to get into the same school — who seemed very confident. I was like, 'I don't understand why you're so confident.' Well, guess what: Her father-in-law is the Pope's doctor when the Pope travels. Her letters of recommendation were from God. LR: I'm Jewish. I have no interest in any religion. There was a Pope here, I think in the '80s. I was on Park Avenue, and it was Halloween. Across the street, there were so many people. I was like, 'What is going on here? I want to get across the street.' And everyone was like, 'It's the Pope!' DR: He was probably going to his doctor! LR: Exactly! In his Pope-mobile. I'm thinking: This is going to kill me. It's ruining my day. All of a sudden, the Pope- mobile goes by. You won't believe this. The Pope and I lock eyes. He looked at me, and I looked at him. DR: He worked his magic on you. LW: Let's talk about Mitford at the Fashion Zoo. DR: I doodle, doodle, doodle. I invented this character [Mitford, the giraffe] that became a thing on Instagram. My wife said, "Enough likes. Likes aren't enough. Let's see if we can pay for college." So, she called Viking and wrangled this book deal. LW: It's so charming and perfect. DR: I know people reading books to kids don't want to read books for kids. So I made a book that would be more for Linda than for a 6-year-old. I'm selling more books in a fashion store than I would in a kids' store. Then I drag Linda along. She's in New York, and it's hard to get out of the house. LR: I'm in bed watching television. LW: How long have you two been friends? DR: For about a year now. I work at Estée Lauder, which bought Linda's company Rodin. So we got smashed together. I'm an illustrator, and Linda's a walking illustration. I've been drawing her from the second I knew her. "I'M A BIG ILLUSTRATOR, AND LINDA IS BASICALLY A WALKING ILLUSTRATION. I'VE BEEN DRAWING HER FROM THE SECOND I KNEW HER." — DONALD ROBERTSON Donald Robertson Scott Wood Alicia Wood Gina Ginsburg John Erdos Louis Koay Randy Root Leslie Root Chandra Byrd David Droese Suzanne Droese Chrissy Sayare Travis Christian Christen Wilson Paige Slates John Slates Lynn Davis Sarah Hayes- Davis Mallory Bassham Heidi Dillon Ann Marie Ferretti Brian Bolke Linda Rodin Eric Maas Lynn McBee Lucy Wrubel Seth Eaton Lynsey Eaton Jamie O'Banion Robert Hernandez Carmen Menza Melbourne O'Banion Sunie Solomon Claire Emanuelson Piper Wyatt Susan Rutledge Faisal Halum Derek Wilson Megan Hall Carson Hall Corrie Strosnider Laura Chancellor Jessica Baxter
