Photography Jay Tovar. 48 Sergei Galperin IN THE ORCHESTRA Houston Symphony's David Chambers and Denise Furlough • DJ Wrangler spun tunes • Etro's Sonya Shernak and Alberto Gonzalez • Ball after- party chairs Valerie and Tracy Dieterich and auction chair Mary Ann McKeithan • Susan and Dick Hansen, Elise Glattier- Hollingsworth and Denzil Hollingsworth, Ralph Burch, Brenda Love, Birgitt van Wijk, and Beth Wolff. Vivacious couple-about-town Jana and Scotty Arnoldy, chairs for the Carnavale- themed Houston Symphony Ball, know how to create hype. First it was salsa and rumba dance lessons at their River Oaks home for ball guests. Next up: An evening of champagne and shopping at the glam boutique Etro in River Oaks District. Symphony supporters turned out, many in Etro's paisley prints and vibrant colors, to shop, with a generous percentage of the evening's sales benefitting Houston Symphony Education and Community Programming. In a special surprise, Houston Symphony first violinist Sergei Galperin — a Moscow native who began studying the instrument at the age of five and performed at the Concert Hall of the Moscow Conservatory shortly thereafter — serenaded guests with an intime in- store solo.
