THE THEME OF ART+ARCHITECTURE SEEMED SO NATURAL ... THE TWO DISCIPLINES ARE INSEPARABLE AND A LOT OF FUN AS WELL. THE EVENING CERTAINLY SUPPORTED THAT CONCEPT. A rt + Architecture proved an apropos theme for this year's iteration of Art Ball, the Dallas Museum of Art's annual fund-raiser. Expectations were high, as design powerhouses Ann and David Sutherland were chairmen — they're the stylish couple behind David Sutherland furniture showrooms, Costa collection for Restoration Hardware, and Perennials fabrics. Event maestro Todd Fiscus concocted a contemporary masterpiece for the occasion: Abstract expressionist Mark Di Suvero's Ave (1993), a monumental red-steel anchor of the DMA's south entrance, served as aesthetic inspiration and even appeared to prop up the monumental party tent where the seated dinner took place. In a modernist mix of gray, red, and yellow with moss-covered chandeliers and geometric table arrangements, red-and-white- striped carpeting was a boon to ladies balancing in their sky-high heels. The silent auction was curated by the Sutherlands' friend, interior designer Gonzalo Bueno, and Christie's President of Americas Brook Hazelton revved the crowd to raise their paddles during the live auction. Members of the Dallas String Quartet performed between dinner courses prepped by society's go-to caterer, Cassandra Tomassetti. Then it was off to the new Eagle Family Plaza — which made its grand debut that night — for the after-party, hosted by the DMA Junior Associates and chaired by Rachel and Michael Osburn.
