54 A lessandro Michele, creative director of Gucci, has turned the Italian fashion house on its head with his brilliant collections embracing pattern, coloration and embellishment. His madcap vision extends to home design where, this month, Gucci Decor launches, inspired by the runway collections and embracing Michele's rampant garden lexicon, with flora- and fauna-inspired carpets, wallpaper, embroidered cushions, teapots, candles, and incense holders. Small porcelain objects are produced by Richard Ginori, a historic Florentine company (where Michele also serves as creative director) founded in 1735, and are embellished with a green-and-white Herbarium pattern, the "eye" design, and animals from the Gucci Garden of bees, butterflies, snakes, and tigers. Tasseled and fringed pillows are heavily embroidered, as is a velvet cushion for a Chiavari chair. The scents for the candle and incense collections are lushly named Inventum (rose), Fumus (birch, orange leaves, and beeswax), Herbosum (tomato leaves, long grass, basil, lemongrass), and Esotericum (bitter Seville oranges, jasmine, leather, salt).
