154 FLIGHT PATTERNS WHEN SCHOOL IS COOL: BOOKER'S T'S FLYINGHORSE FUND-RAISING NIGHT By Jane Rozelle. Photography Tricia Schoon Cothran. E die Brickell, Erykah Badu, and Norah Jones have one thing in common: The mega-tal- ents all attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. One of the brightest spots of the Dallas Arts District, Booker T. is often called the coolest school in town — the real School of Rock. This year's Flyinghorse fund-raiser for Booker T. celebrated its 40th anniversary. Cocktail hour commenced high atop the neighboring Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, where the hottest lot in the silent auction was a limited-edition set of 10 Pegasus prints from 2012 Booker T. grad Maisie O'Brien who collaborated with current students on the work. Then, it was on to the main attraction, the student showcase in the school's Montgomery Arts Theatre. The playbill included Italian opera, flamenco dancing, and the headline performance of "My Shot" featuring Booker T. alum Miguel Cervantes, a lead cast member of the Chicago production of Hamilton. Other notable alumni on stage included Elizabeth Muscari, Jared Brown, Nathan De'Shon Myers, Mason Manning, and MyKal Stromile. IN ATTENDANCE: Booker T. executive director Lisa Lawrence Walker, advisory board president John Lawrence, and principal Scott Rudes; chairs Courtney and Jeff Sinelli; and Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki, Lynn McBee, Nick Even, Nicole Musselman, Amy and Howard Klion, Ed Stead, Henny Wright, and Jessica and Gary Wilson.
