After moving in 2016 to Post HTX (the former Downtown Barbara Jordan Post Office, now an event center), Day For Night has compiled a diverse lineup of musicians and visual artists that solidifi es the event as a premier destination music-and-arts festival, unique in the talent it draws and the space it inhabits. The biggest musical names are Solange, Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke, St. Vincent, James Blake, and Jamie xx. But dig deeper, and you'll find surprises such as Sky Ferreira, Cardi B, Jlin, and Perfume Genius rounding out the bill. Day For Night has also added Friday evening to the mix, with a summit highlighting four activists, including Chelsea Manning and Laurie Anderson, complemented with a Saint Heron-curated musical showcase featuring house star Kaytranada and the prodigious Earl Sweatshirt. The festival's takeover of Post HTX's 1.5 million square feet gives room for immersive, often mind- altering art installations, this year headlined by Ryoji Ikeda (who has shown at The Met) and James Turrell protégé Matthew Schreiber, with a site-specifi c light installation planned. A portion of the festival's proceeds benefi ts Greater Houston Community Foundation in light of Hurricane Harvey's recent coastal devastation.
