letter publisher STEVEN VISNEAU, SISTERBROTHER MGMT 20 A s we welcome November, it's hard to believe 2017 is almost over. While the year may be winding down, there's no sense of things slowing down with a lively calendar of PaperCity- sponsored events to keep you engaged. In addition to our numerous long-standing charity partnerships, we're thrilled to serve as media sponsor for several organizations for the first time this year, many taking place this month. One is the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, with its Director's Choice performance November 3 through 5 at the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre. DBDT is rich in talent and history as the oldest, continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas celebrating their 41st season. PaperCity was first introduced to the Young Women's Preparatory Network by way of the formidable Lynn McBee, who serves as chief executive officer of YWPN, comprised of eight, all-girl college readiness schools. On November 4, from 1 to 5 pm, Young Women's Preparatory Network presents Girls Innovate: YWPN STEM Challenge at NorthPark Center, highlighting students' innovative STEM ideas, solutions, and inventions as a way to encourage engagement in these disciplines and community awareness to the network. A few of us at PaperCity were encouraged to serve as senior mentors after having one of YWPN's bright students intern with us this summer. I can confidently say that should you attend the event, you'll not only be impressed, but you may be one of the first to witness an idea that will someday have great impact, as these young women are razor sharp, poised, and dedicated to achieving some rather audacious goals. On the culinary side of things, we're anxiously awaiting Chefs for Farmers, which will showcase the best of the Dallas food scene and the farmers that make it all possible. The PaperCity-sponsored Kick Off Dinner: Know Thy Farmer on November 3 is already sold out but you can still snag a ticket to The Main Event at Oak Lawn Park on November 5. Also added to the list of new sponsorships this month is the 36th Annual Black Tie Dinner taking place November 11. The gala, which benefits 20 North Texas beneficiaries, as well as the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, has distributed $21 million to date. Its message of unity could not be more apropos. We hope to see you at one of these many worthwhile events as we round out the fall. Briana Buxbaum Dallas Publisher briana@papercitymag.com
