8 letter editor HUNT SLONEM S itting in my office, alone, on a Wednesday. Most of the PaperCity staff is iced in. So I'll take this time to give a shout-out to the Starbucks on Buffalo Speedway at Westpark. They were the last Starbucks standing and the first one open during Harvey, and the only one open in the Galleria and River Oaks area on day two of the freeze. Five other Starbucks I checked … all closed. This manager deserves a Starbucks commendation — an extra star on his shirt. And he's in great spirits, calling out greetings to a line that wraps around the interior of the shop. Now I'm going to concentrate on my upcoming trip to the biennial Design Weekend at Lyford Cay, organized by the indomitable Chesie Breen, Jackie de Ravenel, Amanda Lindroth, and John Fondas. This is the fourth Design Weekend — three beautiful days of amazing panelists, book signings, salon talks, cocktails, and dinners. This year's design guests include architect Gil Schafer III, designer Keith Langham, photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna, and a Great American White House Style keynote with Elle Decor editor in chief Whitney Robinson, Town & Country editor in chief Stellene Volandes, author and journalist Kate Betts, and chef and author Alex Hitz, moderated by Chesie. The focus of Design Weekend is the tour of eight houses, all with the most amazing histories and charm. Designers Amanda Lindroth, Miles Redd, Tom Scheerer, and John Fondas have designed multiple houses on Lyford. The event revolves around the Lyford Cay Club, which was redesigned several years ago by Scheerer to great acclaim and is a feast to see. All in all, it's a Slim Aarons weekend.
