38 AND THEN SOME 20YEARS BY CHRISTINA GEYER. PHOTOGRAPHY THOMAS GARZA. T he history between PaperCity and Neiman Marcus is the stuff of legend. The retailer was one of the magazine's first partners and played host to many a PaperCity party, which people still talk about today. Sadly, I missed the first 10 years of our magazine's life, so I missed most of those buzz-worthy parties dreamed up by Ken Downing — from Tom Ford debut- ing his coffee-table book here, with Ford penning his signature atop actual party guests (in places we won't mention) to Stella McCartney's welcome to Dallas, which included a marching-band entrée and cheerleaders chanting a cheer specially for Stella. This balmy September night recalled many of those good times, as an intimate group joined us at Neiman Marcus Downtown for dinner at The Zodiac to toast 20 years of partnership. NM Downtown's beloved Marjon Henderson had design duties; she added plenty of glamour with lush teal, purple, and berry hues, gold china and flatware. The empress of fragrance, Laura Slatkin of Nest Fragrances, flew in to join us, as she had an anniversary to celebrate, too. Hers was a toast to 10 years, and all went home with her latest candle, the perfect-for-fall Sparkling Cassis. Past PaperCity Dallas editors joined in on the fun, with Max Trowbridge, Rob Brinkley, and Brooke Hortenstine all reminiscing about their tenures with PC. We were all thrilled to meet Neiman Marcus' new CEO the debonair Geoffroy Van Raemdonck and his darling interior-designer husband, Alvise Orsini. They were in good NM company: Chuck Steelman changed around travel plans to help celebrate with us; Mimi Sterling made a most touching toast; and the new general manager of the downtown store, Tim Adair, proved a most convivial dinner date.
