52 STARS ON EARTH BY LISA COLLINS SHADDOCK F ilm screenings, eco summits, and goat yoga aside, the most world-rocking event during EarthX — the world's largest exposition, conference, and film festival addressing en- vironmental issues, founded by billionaire entrepreneur Trammell S. Crow — was the EarthX Global Gala. The evening soirée, held at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, kicked off by raffling away a hybrid Lexus and closed with a surprise per- formance by two-time Grammy Award winner Colbie Caillat. In between, EarthX honored some of the leading vision- aries and explorers of our time with the 2018 Global Impact Awards, recognizing leadership in environmental awareness across education, film, and television. Presenters and award recipients included world-renowned oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer in Residence Sylvia Earle; legendary moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, deemed Explorer of the Year; Texas Business for Clean Air co-founder Garrett Boone; former NFL fullback Ovie Mughelli; actor Harry Hamlin; and Sea Shepherd founder Captain Paul Watson.
