W ith more shops and antiques venues open year-round, there's more time to see and buy. Joining the year-round lineup is Round Top Antiques & Design Center, opening this month. Susan Massey (whose son, Mark Massey, is the new Round Top mayor) created Round Top Antiques & Design Center in the 6,000-square-foot former Henkel Hall in Henkel Square, with 11 by-invitation dealers and designers offering a diverse mix of antiques and vintage furniture and accessories. Kathy Johnston, antiques show producer of The Compound, has vetted an inaugural list of dealers that include Australia/San Francisco- based Salvage Europe (antique French oak flooring and furniture, architectural antiques), Laurier Blanc (antique European hunting YEAR-ROUND WONDERFUL trophies, European furnishings, accessories), Brocante French Antiques (French country), Pensieri Design (antique textiles, custom mirrors, tapestries, and wall hangings), Brooke Drake Design (antiques and mid-century), Pascal Home (handcrafted furniture and antiques), Manos de Sur (blankets, vintage textiles, Fair Trade horn jewelry), Burns Antik Haus (European antiques, decoratives), ReWorks Home (handcrafted furnishings, lighting), LooLoo Design (vintage K aty Bader's Round Top empire (Bader Ranch, The Frenchie Guesthouses ) is expanding. Bader and her partner in The Frenchie, Kristin Light, have acquired a beautiful farm just five minutes outside Round Top towards Shelby on FM 1457. The yet unnamed sister property — with wildflower-laden rolling hills, deer, and wild turkeys — will become a luxury weekend rental property and was purchased from a family whose grandmother was born and raised in the on-site 1800s farmhouse. "It was like at some point someone just closed BIGGER AND BADER THAN EVER. WHAT'S UP AT BADER RANCH AND THE FRENCHIE Kristin Light, Katy Bader at The Frenchie Guesthouses all the doors and walked away," Bader says. "The farmhouse will be designed by Light, and we will keep many of the original parts of the house — floors, walls, and ceilings." A horse barn will be turned into an al fresco recreational and lounge space with outdoor kitchen, and construction has just wrapped on two lakes for fishing, swimming, paddle-boating, and canoeing. An infinity pool that will spill into one of the lakes is in the works. Back in town at The Frenchie Guesthouses, a new pool and lanai area is underway, to be completed by mid-February. Local chef Tamatha Mills offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner for Frenchie guests, by reservation, starting at $40 per person. "She sets up a table for two or more, outdoors or in, and offers an amazing multi-course meal," Katy Bader says …. On the heels of an über-successful Fall Antiques Show, Lady Elaine will be back at Bader Ranch in her vintage Airstream serving cocktails (yes, her margaritas will be back), coffee, and wine for the Winter Show, January 21 through 24. Two Bader Ranch dealers managed to successfully navigate pandemic waters and had containers arrive in December in time for the show: Patrice Watine, who owns Jardin de France with his wife, Gloria, will show European antiques, while Belgium dealer Pieter Verschaeve offers up European mid-century modern.
