letter editor HUNT SLONEM T his month is a romp through the lens of Houston-born director Wes Anderson. Scene one — Hunter Hicks' Shag Palace in Arlington, Texas, the setting for our fashion shoot on pages 36 through 45, and the cover. Hunter purchased the fantastical modernist home — a family heirloom, he says — from his grandparents. The pastel palette and eccentric visual style is a Royal Tenenbaums moment. Then it's on to a bold 1918 Italianate estate, designed by Shelly Lloyd with owners April and Jeff Manson. It's a riot of de Gournay Amazonia wallpaper, golden palms, a swan as chaise, and meticulously arranged salon walls. And, to tie together this paean to Wes, we examine the life of F.E. Castleberry (another Texan), an artist/designer in NYC, whose inspiration comes from David Hockney, Gerald Murphy, Truman Capote, William F. Buckley Jr., and, yes, Wes. There's a wonderful Instagram account called @accidental_wes_anderson, composed of photographs of Wes moments found in everyday places. It's captivating — and a perfect lens for this moment in time.
