O ne of America's b e s t - k n o w n ambassadors of the antiques realm is Leigh Keno of PBS fame. He and his twin brother, Leslie Keno, propelled Antiques Roadshow to its outsized popularity, inspiring generations of collectors to comb through yard sales and family attics. So, it was a very big deal when Leigh Keno, president of Keno Auctions on New York's Upper East Side, and his son, Brandon Keno (who's also in the biz), headed to Round Top to wrap the final week of the Spring Antiques Show and inaugurate the newly minted events venue The Halles, home to PaperCity/Round Top and Round Top Publisher's World Headquarters. The marathon appraisal afternoon, made possible in part by Ruby Lane, was live-streamed on rubylane.com. The day also gave back, benefiting Burton, Texas-based Camp For All, which focuses on activities for kids with challenging illnesses and special needs. Appraising We Go Keno disarmed the crowd with insights spanning centuries and continents while decoding a startling array of objects, from rare books to Asian and American porcelain, Georgian tableware, 18th- and 19th-century clocks, and even a pair of cowboy boots signed by Muhammad Ali. There was also a chance to glimpse an exceptionally rare Renaissance-era artwork from a pedigreed collection. In the attentive audience: Kurt Podeszwa with Camp For All; Melinda Abell, with her Rose Medallion porcelain pitcher and bowl and Neoclassical Tucker Porcelain compote (a similar one graces MFAH's Bayou Bend Collection); and Ana Gore, bearing a Rivers & Son 18th- century carriage clock that still keeps impeccable time. Also toting treasures: Martha Turner Sotheby's Linda Plant with an heirloom 19th-century chair that belonged to her mother; Nancy Baird, with a 1760s cruet set; Gayle van Brummen with a family Bible, circa 1619; designer Jane Broyles with a Chinese figure of Guanyin inherited from her dad; Lynda and Henry Churchwell; Tom Burks; Lauren Monroe, wheeling a full- sized carved 18th-century Italian angel; and Ruby Lane's Alex Gardner — a descendent of Boston doyenne/museum founder Isabella Stewart Gardner — with the surprise of the day: an exquisite 15th-century drawing attributed to Michelangelo's teacher, Domenico Ghirlandaio. Applause, applause to The Halles' sponsors: Circa Lighting, Moderno Porcelain Works, and Perennials and Sutherland. A toast to champagne sponsor Bordeaux Château, courtesy Alisanne Wonderland.
