JOIN THE CLUB — NEW VIP H AV E N AT R O U N D T O P ANTIQUES AND DESIGN SHOW W elcome to the country club, your home away from home during the Round Top Antiques and Design Show. The hospitality pavilion at the PaperCity | Round Top Publishers World Headquarters, The Halles, has been reimagined as a VIP lounge and chill zone — a first of its kind at the shows. In addition to the most serene meadow view in Round Top (cows included), the VIP pavilion offers lounge seating and table seating, and installations from the Contemporary Arts Museum Artist Volkan Alkanoglu's new pedestrian bridge, Drift, in Fort Worth Houston Nurture, by artist in residence Preston Gaines, as well as high- speed Wi-Fi, charging connections, clean and spacious restrooms, a full bar, and great food. A respite is top of mind for any designer or shopper hustling between venues. Use the VIP lounge as a sanctuary for meetups with friends, and sandwich your day with complimentary muffins and mimosas in the morning, then margaritas and queso at the end of the day. In between, shop the Round Top Antiques Show Guide partners (generally known to be the best of show). Grab a bite and ask the concierge staff where to go next. Treat yourself, entertain, or gift clients with VIP tickets to The Halles. Swag for first-day ticket holders includes a canvas tote, copy of Countryside: A Report, by famed architect Rem Koolhaas, gift cards to restaurants, complimentary glass of wine, shopping discounts at various partners' venues, as well as discounted offers from great B&Bs, and invitations to events at The Halles (see below), book signings and barn talks. Discounted extra-day tickets, week- long tickets, and run-of-show tickets offer all the VIP lounge amenities, minus the swag. VIP ticket holders are invited to an invitation-only, end-of-show party Wednesday, October 27, where Benjamin Moore celebrates their OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE HALLE PASS D rift, a new pedestrian bridge in Fort Worth designed by artist Volkan Alkanoglu, is both functional and beautiful — two words not often used together when talking about urban infrastructure. On the practical side, Drift is a 62-foot-long pathway with benches and railings that spans a creek between two South Hills neighborhoods. But it's also a piece of public art, commissioned by the City of Fort Worth's Public Art Program. Drift is designed to resemble a smooth branch of driftwood and, from some angles, the hull of a ship. The Portland, Oregon-based Alkanoglu worked with engineers and specialty fabricators to make the timber-and- steel bridge off-site, minimizing disruption to the neighborhood and the creek's surrounding vegetation. This prefabricated, "plug-and-play urbanism," as he calls it, is also affordable. The $375,000 price tag is slim for a project of this scale, says Alkanoglu, whose large art installations are in universities and museums across the country. It's his first infrastructure project, but likely not his last, as the country's roads, bridges, and other infrastructure are in dire need of upgrading. Computational design, like Drift's plug-and-play engineering, is just the innovation our crumbling cities need, the artist says.
