OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. T exas Design Week H o u s t o n — Monday through Friday, April 25 through 29 — is a week-long c e l e b r a t i o n o f design with panel discussions, salon talks, book signings, product launches, and cocktails with some of the most recognized names in the design world. Here are just some of the highlights. Deputy chairman of Christie's International Charles Cator and legendary designer Stephen Sills will discuss the history and decoration of Hubert de Givenchy's extraordinary homes, Hôtel d'Orrouer in Paris and the Château du Jonchet in the Loire Valley, as the contents of Givenchy's two homes go up for auction in June in Paris. The rare trove includes 18th-century French and European armchairs, tables, and objects and works by Alberto Giacometti, François- Xavier Lalanne, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Claudio Bravo. See more on the auction on pages 78 – 79. Architect Peter Pennoyer, co-hosted by ICAA (Institute of Classical Architecture & Art), will discuss and sign his book Rowdy Meadow (Vendome), which chronicles a visionary house inspired by Czech Cubism — a complete work of art encompassing architecture, interior design, landscape design, furnishings, and collections of decorative and contemporary art. Bunny Mellon's grandson Thomas Lloyd and designer Bryan Huffman, who was friends with Bunny for decades, will discuss Ms. Mellon's legendary homes, gardens, and life, and sign their book Bunny Mellon Style (Gibbs-Smith), co-hosted by ICAA. Additional speakers include Edmund Hollander of Hollander Landscape Architects, who has won multiple prestigious ICAA awards and is an elected Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, one of the society's highest honors; former Vogue and New York Times editor William Norwich presenting Interiors: The Greatest Rooms of the Century (Phaidon); and India Hicks, daughter of legendary designer David Hicks, speaking and signing copies of her book An Entertaining Story (Rizzoli). Also appearing are designers Philip Gorrivan, Matthew Patrick Smyth (Through a Designer's Eye, a Focus on Interiors), Aldous Bertram (Dragons & Pagodas: A Celebration of Chinoiserie), Kimberly Schlegel Whitman and designer Shelley Johnstone-Paschke (A Loving Table), and award-winning chefs Robert Del Grande and Chris Williams in conversation with hospitality-culinary designer Gin Braverman, Gin Design Group, sponsored by Monogram.
