N o staid black- tie happening on this night. Au contraire, t h e H o u s t o n Symphony Ball s o a r e d i n t o unfamiliar territory when legendary rocker Sammy Hagar and his longtime guitarist, Vic Johnson, took the stage at The Post Oak Hotel. The hour-long set found many among the 350 guests charging the dance floor — not to dance, but to roll with the sounds of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. Prior to the headliner, the talented Dave Bennett Quartet provided dinner music that inspired a bit of dancing, while a string quartet welcomed guests to the ballroom. Taking bows on the evening that raised $1.1 million were Margaret Alkek Williams, Lifetime of Philanthropy Award honoree; Janet F. Clark, the Ima Hogg Philanthropy Award recipient; and Houston Symphony executive director and CEO John Mangum, who received the Raphael Fliegel Award for Visionary Leadership.
