Working from original drawings from Crespi's archives, Danish design group Gubi has put a rare collection of her rattan lounge furniture into production for the first time. Crespi originally designed the Bohemian 72 Collection in the spring of 1972 as part of a larger collection of her bamboo furniture. A glamorous socialite who circulated among European royalty and the Hollywood jet set, she was Valentino's muse and, later, partnered with fashion houses Dior and Stella McCartney. Rattan GABRIELLA CRESPI'S ARTISTIC BOHEMIAN VISION REVIVED indoor furnishings were in vogue in the '70s with Crespi's sophisticated crowd, but her designs were unusual in that they featured stacked layers of coiled rattan vines. These furnishings were produced only for private clients — until now. Timed to coincide with Crespi's 100th birthday, Gubi's collaboration with Archivio Gabriella Crespi — run by her daughter, Elisabetta Crespi — includes a lounge chair, three- seater sofa, ottoman, and floor lamp. Rattan canes are steamed and bent by hand around a die specifically made to the dimensions of Crespi's drawings. Seats are topped with cushions upholstered in Milan-based Dedar bouclé fabric in white with underlying natural tones, designed specifically for the collection. Seating ranges from $2,299 to $10,499.
