Rebekah Johnson of Bergner & Johnson kept to the theme, beginning with table assignments painted on the backs of dominoes. Tables were topped, in addition to soaring profusions of dogwood blossoms, with replicas of backgammon and Scrabble boards while Scrabble pieces were dotted around the flower vases. The theme was a salute to the role that traditional games have played in art over the centuries, Menil director Rebecca Rabinow noted, adding that games have been depicted in hundreds of thousands of works. Many guests added games of various sorts to their attire, with Franci Neely providing her table guests with Cameroon football-team jerseys, while Sam Lasseter covered his dinner jacket in Scrabble letters, and Eddie Allen and Kevin Lewis came costumed as chess pieces — bishop and king, respectively. The exceptional dinner by Jackson & Company fueled energy for dancing to Danny Ray and the Acoustic Production. STUDIO MENIL CELEBRATES THE ART OF THE GAME. Shelby Hodge rolls the dice.
