Anspon HOTEL LULU X STUDIO IMLI R ound Top's Hotel Lulu has partnered with Studio Imli, a Houston-based and woman- owned textiles atelier, to bring unique cultural blankets to its bucolic rooms; the collection is available for purchase. Created from cotton that was handspun by women in Pakistani villages, the blankets are meticulously handwoven by artisans in the Cholistan Desert and rural areas of Pakistan. Studio Imli founder Sanaa Sahi was inspired by the textiles passed down from woman to woman in her family for more than 100 years. Though the designs and colors have been changed for Hotel Lulu, the heritage remains. "Studio Imli is about community at its core, and the hotel has cultivated such a great one," says Sahi. F or the past 50 years, Round Top Festival Institute has stockpiled the donated estates of its benefactors in The Great Shed — a massive three- story storage building in Round Top. This winter, the esteemed music institution is selling off a portion of the vast collection of antiques and vintage cache as a fundraising event at Festival Hill. The sale marks the first time in Festival Hill's history that this collection has been offered to the public. Curtis Ann Davis of The Arbors heads up the fundraising effort. Over the past year and a half, her team has unpacked, cleaned, and restored a trove of items earmarked for the sale, which is Wednesday through Saturday, January 18 through 21, on the Festival Hill Plaza. The ticketed preview party and silent auction are January 18, with food, drinks, and live music to kick off what Davis calls the Festival Hill Estates Collection. Antique chandeliers, hand-carved figural sofas, antique four-poster beds, taxidermy, and vintage furnishings from the liquidation of an entire furniture store that closed in the 1980s are just some of the unearthed treasures. Davis and team have also found thousands of vinyl record albums, vintage clothing, and theatrical costumes. "This winter will be the first phase of the sale," Davis says, "with more to come." Proceeds from the event benefit Festival Hill. For more information, contact Curtis Ann Davis at roundtop@arborantiques.com. Candice Cowin ROUND ABOUT ROUND TOP TEN CANDLES FOR RED & WHITE J oan and Jerry Herring's gallery hits the decade marker in January, which will be appropriately celebrated with an exhibition of the same name: "10: The Red & White Gallery's Tenth Anniversary Exhibit." Housed in a jaunty red-and- white storefront that lines the charming town square of Fayetteville, the contemporary art space is steeped in history. The gallery's distinctive structure, circa 1835 to 1850, is reportedly the oldest commercial building in Fayette County and was once the town grocer, with one room devoted to the Dawn Theater, now reprised with a series of popular movie nights hosted by the Herrings. Then there's their stable of artists, rare in a town of 246 folks. Red & White's illustrious lineup reflects the gallery's local-to-national vision. For example, Richard Avedon's assistant during photographing In the American West, documentary great Laura Wilson, shows at Red & White, one of her only two U.S. dealers. Wilson is among the talents featured in "10." Also watch for works by one of Texas' modern masters of landscape, retired University of Houston professor William Anzalone, whose career to date extends well over half a century; as well as works by ceramics maestro Pat Johnson; Susan Budge's totemic clay creations; photographic image-maker Arthur Meyerson; the late Texas abstract painter Charles Schorre; Mary Quiros' buoyant takes on nature; and practitioner of the 19th-century art of Laura Wilson's Hutterite Girl with Her Horse, 1992, at Red & White Gallery PÄR BENGTSSON Round Top Festival Institute Hotel Lulu's Studio Imli blankets 94
