Love letters from the Aughts this setting, Celine shared its story of rock- influenced fashion with a diverse crowd of everybodies. Not missing were the stars, the influencers, and models. Also not missing were the punks, the poseurs, the cool kids, and others from virtually every walk of life. It had a democratic feeling with a big dash of cool. Meritocracy ruled, at least for the evening. The sense pervaded the walls and guests who listened to live performances of rock legend Iggy Pop and early-aughts stars Interpol, The Strokes, and a DJ performance by The Kills. It was a homecoming for Slimane, who lived in L.A. in the mid-2000s, and it felt like one. Gold balloons decked the basement. A mix of eras converged at the storied venue — the rock stars of my 20s and Slimane's latest collection, The Age of Indieness, converging for a blow-out fashion show and party to celebrate these things dear to my heart. It was a night of warmth, of joy, and of fashion that felt like home, but with a twist. Celine was everywhere. Burgers were stamped with the logo. Ice cubes bore the mark. Lollipops were emblazoned. Even French fries were cut to shape. Details matter. And here they came together for one night as we got to relive a moment, think of all those great times associated with it, and look forward to them melting into the future. That's what Hedi Slimane conjured up at Celine's latest fashion show Thought is what made it all work. Attention to detail. Delivering, and then surprising once again. Such was the love we were treated to. There are many places to hold an event; the Wiltern — L.A.'s 1931 Art Deco landmark, home to some of the most iconic music performances in the city's well chronicled history — was the perfect place.
