TEACH AN OLD BOOT NEW TRICKS M any have tried, but no one has made a rain boot as iconic as Hunter. The 160-plus-year- old British footwear company seamlessly blends fashion and function with a signature style that never falters — one of the reasons these boots are such a great investment. We love the Hunter Creators series, an ongoing collaboration with modern artists who give their own spin to the classic slim silhouette for an extremely limited run of one-of-a- kind boots. The latest artist in residence is Dallas-based Sam Lao. "I predominately work in fibers, so when they contacted me, it was very much a case of 'This seems cool, but I don't know how I'm going to do this,'" says Lao, who was literally lacing up her custom Hunter boots as we spoke. "But I did end up finding a technique and design that I feel has the essence of my work while also being a wearable piece of art that people can collect and really love." Only 30 pairs in this series will ever be released; each has been customized by hand, making each pair truly unique. N ew York is calling — the esteemed Kips Bay Decorator Show House is finally back in New York City after a three-year hiatus. The 48th annual Show House has claimed the historic River Mansion at 337 Riverside Drive on the Upper West Side and will be open to the public for one month, beginning Thursday May 11, with the opening preview party slated for Wednesday, May 10, 6 to 9 pm. Since 1973, supporters of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club raise funds for after-school and enrichment programs for NYC children via a magnificent showhouse, wherein renowned interior designers transform a Manhattan townhome. The event has expanded with great success to Palm Beach and Dallas (opening day October 6). Designers go all out and are expected to let their creativity shine, calling in favors with all their talented craftspeople to produce the most unexpected and exquisite interiors. The show house is known for creating new trends in interior design, making it a can't-miss event. This year's beautiful townhouse, The River Mansion, dates to 1902 and sits on a stately corner point beside Riverside Park with dreamy Hudson River views. It's been home to such notable residents as actress Julia Marlowe and the Bronfman family, including Edgar, Sherri, and Hannah. Time to book your next New York trip.
