OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. Retail: The news that has everyone buzzing of late involves openings in NorthPark Center. First off, we were over the moon that the house that Miuccia built, Prada, returns to Dallas after more than two decades. We spied the iconic logo pop up on the construction walls of their boutique, which opens sometime in 2024, in the corridor between Neiman Marcus and Dillard's. We also know that our favorite luxury house with the iconic G is opening sometime soon in its expanded space on the same corridor of high fashion… Need some fabulous new baubles for your jewelry box? Head to Grange Hall, one of our favorite boltholes — a wunderkammer of treasures. We recently attended a trunk show and luncheon (morel mushroom and asparagus tartlet with fontina, goat cheeses, and sherry), where we met jewelry designer Jean Prounis. We learned the intriguing backstory of her collection, which features jewelry hand wrought from recycled 22K gold set with precious and semiprecious stones: It was an homage to her ancestry. Her great-grandfather, Otto Prounis, was co-proprietor of the Versailles, a glamorous nightclub across from the Waldorf Astoria in New York City that had its heyday in the 1940s. The fashionable and celebrity crowd (Perry Como, Dean Martin) enjoyed drinking and dining in the club, which dripped with custom silver, sage-green silk, and embroidered linens. Many of these Art Deco artifacts and objets made their way into the Prounis family home where Jean grew up. She was enchanted with them, along with an early interest in Greco-Roman art and antiques, which she discovered in the massive tomes her grandfather had collected throughout the years. Spring has sprung: Explore the colorful blooms bursting at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, for the third annual Black Heritage Celebration. The event features everything from chef demonstrations to musicians and a fashion show. Debuting this year is the Children's Celebration, 10 am until noon on Sunday … If you're enamored with the budding bluebonnets and other fragrant flowers in your garden, consider the lovely new subscription service from Botanical Mix by Shane Friesenhahn. The award-winning floral artist offers weekly and monthly deliveries, and customers can opt to receive medium, large, or extra-large arrangements. For more than 25 years, the flower whisperer has honed his signature sculptural style, which playfully mixes colors, textures, fresh and preserved botanicals, and organic materials — a true botanical mix. Social: We're nearing the finish line of our busiest social season since long before the pandemic lockdown. The year 2023 has been a marathon and not just a sprint. But rest assured, we're certain everyone will be jetting off to the sunny shores of St. Barts or the lush greenery of Aspen at the start of June, and our Smythson datebooks will be quite open until September. But in Buzz YOUR EVER-BUZZY PAPERCITY BEE HAS LOTS TO REPORT THIS MONTH. HE'S GOT THE SWEET SCOOP ON WHAT'S PREMIERING IN DALLAS AND WHAT'S HAPPENING AT OUR FAVORITE HAUNTS. IF YOU SEE HIM AND HAVE SOME NEWS, BE SURE TO SHARE. the meantime … If you haven't yet joined the Friends of Klyde Warren Park's program, then sign up today. At the $1,000 level and above, you receive an invite to the annual garden party, this year scheduled for Thursday, May 4, at the beautiful home of Lisa and Clay Cooley … On Saturday, May 13, get ready for some vogueing glamour at the House of DIFFA Gala. This is a night when Dallas' fashion followers pull out all the stops and wear the most avant- garde ensemble in their wardrobe … On Thursday, May 18, you'll want to run to Ceron for another blowout to look paparazzi ready for two events that evening. We suggest stopping first at the Trinity River Audubon Center's Scissor-tails & Cocktails party. It's an indoor/outdoor event at the center, which encompasses 120 acres just 10 miles south of downtown Dallas, so, you'll enjoy some of the beautiful views. And, in case you were wondering: Scissor-tails are birds that are also known as the Texas bird- of-paradise … Next stop on your party itinerary should be the ReuNight Gala at the Dallas Petroleum Club, also on Thursday, May 18. Chairing this year is the thoughtful troika of Brooke Hortenstine, Margaret Stafford, and Piper Wyatt, with honorary chair Joyce Goss. The gala benefits The Family Place, which empowers survivors of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling, and skills that create independence. Travel: Luxury takes off in Dallas as it becomes a new hub for premium jet service Aero.
