designed to compete with the best homes in Houston. That means interiors designed by Dillon Kyle Architects at The Birdsall. "The directive that we gave Dillon is 'Let's take something that would be a River Oaks home and put it in a hotel,'" Transwestern project executive Sean Suffel says of the guiding mission his team gave Dillon Kyle for The Birdsall. With 90 units starting at $2.4 million, and a private 20th-floor dining room, the 38-story St. Regis Residences, developed by Satya, brings more than 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor private amenities, including a cold plunge pool, in-house movie theater, and a covered arcade overlooking Buffalo Bayou. Sometimes luxury in the sky requires staying grounded, remembering what makes those majestic River Oaks homes so timeless and forever appealing. Everything does not always have to be sleek and modern, especially not if it comes at the exclusion of everything else. "The proportion of the terrace, the proportion of the windows, the fact that the windows go down to the ground — all these things were important to us to make sure that you did not feel that you had the constraints of a high- rise," Kyle says of his design approach at The Birdsall. "It will feel very personal. Just like a house does." St. Regis Residences, Houston, uses the Buffalo Bayou it will tower over as design inspiration, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a sloped exterior that creates large wraparound balconies, all playing into those views. While The Birdsall will be part of The RO, a new 17-acre mixed-use village across from the St. John's School in River Oaks, the St. Regis will stand alone, within easy walking distance of Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens and Memorial Park. The fine things in life are hard to pin down, with that definition shifting depending on the person. But you can see it in these next-level Houston towers — these new unicorns rising in the sky.
