T he 45-year-old Spanish brand DOCA has long been a global design power from Europe to Mexico and South Africa — and now there's a new DOCA showroom in the Upper Kirby District. DOCA is known for E n Gold, an Australian furniture company, has opened a showroom in Houston, showcasing h a n d - c u l t i v a t e d fossilized limestone, n a t u r a l t i m b e r , travertine, iron, marble, and woven seagrass furnishings and accessories. Founder and CEO Steffanie Ball started the company on Instagram in 2018, selling vintage finds — two collections per week, which would sell out in seconds. While she was redecorating her own home in Melbourne, she discovered fossil stone, an artisanal tile-inlay technique that had its heyday in the '70s and '80s, and tracked down the last standing workshop of fossil stone artisans in Cebu, the Philippines. En Gold established an exclusive partnership with the workshop and helped grow their team from 20 to more than 300, reviving the almost lost art. In 2020, a collection of fossil stone sold out within one hour. Today, En Gold's product line encompasses everything from curvaceous console tables to cushiony modular sofas, all crafted with the environment and heirloom quality in mind. The company has showroom representation in California and New York City, but the Houston location is En Garde's only gallery. Houston is also the new home base for designer Ball and her husband, Matt, who oversees bringing her ideas to life. En Gold, 3330 Audley St., engold.com. Kendall Morgan En Gold DOCA interior solutions that marry modern materials with industrial manufacturing and traditional carpentry techniques, as evidenced in its custom wardrobes and luxe kitchen cabinetry. DOCA's Tresille collection is a glamorous floor-to-ceiling fusion of Calacatta marble, porcelain, and Nogal Matige wood, while Tauca is a modern mix of retractable doors and natural stone — all designed with precision and a deep respect for craft.
