Dapper designer Timothy Corrigan, just off a plane from France, served as master of ceremonies. Corrigan is one of the world's leading designers — and the only American honored by the French Heritage Society for his restoration of several national landmarks in France. A member of the AD100 and Elle Decor A-List, he is also a collector of 18th-century châteaux in France and recently completed the refurbishment and decoration of his fourth château. On this evening, Corrigan announced each of the winning projects and presented the Baccarat awards, while images of the projects flashed overhead. He told the artful crowd, "You're making the world a better place for all the beauty you are creating." The first honor of the night was the Visionary Achievement Award, bestowed upon Nancy O'Connor Abendshein for expanding Houston's green space with Houston Botanic Garden. Presenting the award was Jill Barry, Houston Botanic Garden president and CEO. The botanic garden inspires and connects visitors with a collection of 1,200 taxa of tropical, subtropical, and arid plants from every continent except Antarctica. Barry spoke about the significance of the garden before presenting the award to Abendshein, who received a standing ovation from the audience. This year's ceremony was especially well decorated thanks to sponsor BeDesign and Marcelo Saenz and Adrian Dueñas, who created the sultry lounge and stage. Winning designers and architects included Nina Magon Studio, Marie Flanigan Interiors, Nadia Palacios Residential Design, Benjamin Johnston Design (who went home with four awards), Nate Ward Interior Design, Bailey McCarthy, Kara Childress Interior Atelier, Letecia Ellis Haywood Interiors, Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, Curtis & Windham Architects, Studio Heineman, Thompson + Hanson Landscape Architecture, Alexandra Killion Interiors, MaRS Culture, Ronda Carman Fine Fabrics, and Segreto Finishes.
