History: For more than 50 years, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club has produced a dazzling Decorator Show House on the Upper East Side in New York City. The event, which doubles as the nonprofit's biggest fundraiser, is a boon for both its host city and the designers chosen to participate. In 2017, the elite event expanded to Palm Beach, then to Dallas in 2020. VIP Opening Preview Day: Thursday, November 6, 4 to 8 pm. Tickets start at $500. Gallery Row Return Homecoming: A doyenne of Texas visual arts, gallerist Laura Rathe of Laura Rathe Fine Art, established 1999, marks the heart of the fall season with a return to roots. While continuing in her Houston River Oaks District space, as well as Design District digs in Dallas, Rathe reopens her foundational gallery on Colquitt, newly transformed with a dramatic black façade. Designed by Texas/ New York architect Albert Marichal, Rathe first moved into the Gallery Row space in 2008. The sculptural, obsidian- colored, three-story, 3,500 square-foot space unveils in time for holiday art acquiring. Catch "Back in Black," a showcase of Rathe's stable of 70-plus artists. Included are painter of avians, bunnies, and butterflies Hunt Slonem; Stallman Studio's op-art abstractions; Lucrecia Waggoner of the organic porcelain wall installations; confectionary canvases by Mandy Racine that channel Fragonard; and lensman Max Steven Grossman, who depicts imagined libraries.
