Against the de Gournay paper, a small chinoiserie bookcase from the estate of Mario Buatta sits beneath a pair of embroidered birds. Opposite page: Clockwise from top left: A Syrian mirror and wall brackets hang above an Adam-style demilune from Gerald Bland. Deep-green-lacquered coffered ceiling. Ottoman Turkish textiles made into pillows. Trapunto butterflies, the homeowner's idea, were developed with Penn & Fletcher. Penn & Fletcher's 1930s trapunto machine fills each stitched pocket with thread, raising the design in sculpted relief.
