Ten Best Dressed Steal the Show PHOTOGRAPHY DANA DRIENSKY JUNE | PAGE 11 | 2014 REVEALING T HE LUXE LADIES OF THE CRYSTAL CHARITY BALL converged in the Couture Salon at Neiman Marcus Downtown for the much-anticipated announcement of this year's Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas. Each year, members of the Crystal Charity Ball carefully select the list of esteemed ladies, who dress head to toe in the headlining designer from Neiman Marcus — this year, the House of Nina Ricci and designer Peter Copping will be the runway sensation. Crystal Charity Ball chairman Robyn Conlon and luncheon and fashion show chairman Pat Morgan McEvoy welcomed guests to the champagne brunch before the stylish Neva Hall, executive VP of Neiman Marcus stores, and Jeff Byron, VP and general manager of Neiman Marcus Downtown, took to the stage for opening remarks. Byron then revealed the leading ladies to be honored at this year's luncheon and fashion show on Thursday, September 11. Drumroll please: The 2014 Crystal Charity Ball 10 Best Dressed Ladies of Dallas are … Nancy Carlson, Francie Moody-Dahlberg, Mary Clare Finney, Ashley Tripplehorn Hunt, DeeDee Lee, Patty Leyendecker, Lynn McBee, Christi Urschel, and new members Heather Esping and Margaret Hancock. Topping off the list is this year's Hall of Fame Honoree, Lee Ann White. Fluttering with excitement: Muffin Lemak, Cynthia Mitchell, Michelle Lockhart, Gail Fischer, Paige Locke, Vicki Chapman, Lisa Troutt, Gina Betts, and Delilah Boyd. APRIL | PAGE 56 | 2014 THE LEGEND OF ART BALL REIGNS U ne soirée parfait: The sounds of DJ Stepháne Pompougnac (think Best of Hôtel Costes in Paris) echoed throughout the Art Ball After Dark party at the Dallas Museum of Art for the finale of Art Ball, a très chic black-tie affair with a 1920s Parisian theme. Art Deco nuances inspired the decor (courtesy of Tom Addis), Picasso-painted muses modeled, ladies skirted in golden chandeliers offered layer upon layer of champagne, and can-can dancers, all frilly bloomers and long legs, added high kicks to the commencement of dinner. This year's chairman, the illustrious and charitable Gina Betts, hosted 650-plus guests for the 49th annual fund-raiser, which raised more than $2 million for the DMA. In attendance: honorary chairmen Nancy and Richard Rogers, honorees Jennifer and John Eagle, and Jacqueline and Maxwell Anderson, The Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art. The floral decor, abundant with lavender orchids, white peonies and lilies, scented the tented dinner over the Ross Avenue Plaza, where auctioneer Mike Sadler of Heritage Auctions helmed the live auction. The lots were curated by auction chairs Skye Brewer and Rozalyn Colombo; exceeding expectations were the Hermès Birkin Bag, of course, and The Joule Hotel VIP weekend package at the luxurious penthouse. The French cuisine, served by Cassandra Fine Catering, presented perfect tournedos of beef, foie gras and Roquefort pâté aux pommes de terre, with fricassée of wild mushrooms. But, the highlight of the evening, perfectly poised at the piano, was nine-time Grammy Award-winning John Legend, who serenaded the audience with a string quartet, singing tunes of love, "All of Me" and a rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark." But, for me, musical glee turned to pink-faced embarrassment when Mr. Legend asked if there was a Maxine in the audience — moi, of course, and heads turned in acknowledgement … His serenade was the hit and love-forlorn song "Maxine." For all of them: Kelli and Allen Questrom, Holly and Doug Deason, Sharon and Michael Young, Nancy Dedman, Katherine and Eric Reeves, Deedie Rose, Georgina Hartland, Tanya Foster, Jennifer Dix, Frank Hettig and Ed Beardsley, Shelle Sills, after-party chairs Kameron and Court Westcott and Chart Westcott.
