This year's roundup of design talent: Alexa Hampton, in from New York; Jay Jeffers from L.A.; and San Antonio's architect eminence Michael G. Imber. But before design day commenced, architect Lauren Rottet summoned the designers and local design peerage to cocktails and conversation in her River Oaks home. The only issue: she was in Palm Springs hosting another party at the former residence of old blue eyes. Unfazed, she simply excused herself from her desert shindig and flew back to Houston for three hours then zipped right back to Palm Springs that night. Quaffing and conversing: Christina Girard, Anita Smith, Ken Kehoe, Albert Wilson, Sarah Eilers, Courtnay Tartt Elias, Rusty Arena, Jonathon Glus, Haley Garcia, and Mike Mahlstedt. Bright and early the next morning, designers et al gathered at Alkusari Stone showroom for a design dialogue moderated by Heritage Texas Properties president and CEO Robin Mueck. Then it was on to the business of book buying and signing, with Bunch & Shoemaker, Teri Pugh Studio and Thorntree Slate & Marble hosting individual meet-and-greets for each designer. Later that evening, the design trio returned to the stage to host the PaperCity Design Awards at The Houston Design Center (look for complete coverage in our October issue).
