AUCTION-RAMA If you haven't been to DiverseWork's no-holes-barred benefit Luck of the Draw, you are missing out on top Texas art and also some extraordinary bidding drama. Pony up your Benjamins, receive a chance and when your number is called, draw — which translates into racing around the art space to select your favorite portable treasure. Forget polite auction rooms — this is a scene worthy of the wild west. Bridget and Patrick Wade stepped in as this year's chairmen, and it was a rowdy record-setting fête. Our fave showdowns: Paul Middendorf ended up with Seth Mittag's ode to Houston, a little ditty of a drawing showing beer, guns and trucks; art prince Lester Marks beelined for the Earl Staley; and Christy Karll, among the night's biggest shoppers, acquired five works, including Daniel Anguilu's street-art inspired offering and Keith Hollingsworth's delicate realistic roses drawing. Other astute admirers and/or acquirers: board president Jason Fuller, Looking at Art's Victoria and Marshal Lightman, Leigh and Reggie Smith, Rob Greenstein, Inman Gallery's Kerry Inman and Patrick Reynolds, Jennie and Justin Segal, Sarah Beth and Paul Seifert, Aimee and Isaac Heimbinder, and about-to-be-wed Whitney Radley and then fiancé/ now husband, artist Bradley Kerl. ANTICIPATING AN ARTFUL CONVERGENCE The best is yet to come, but the beginning was pretty fabulous when Saks Fifth Avenue kicked off DiverseWorks' upcoming Fashion Fête, year deux. Co-chairs PaperCity's Kate Stukenberg and Caroline Starry LeBlanc — Duyen Huynh and Gail Rubin also serve as co-chairs of the main event this month — joined by Saks' Bobby Dees and Merrie Chmilarski, presided over the artfully choreographed cocktail bash, with bites from 51fifteen Restaurant & Lounge and cocktails fueled by RWB Vodka. The convivial evening doubled as a chance to shop Saks' Reed Krakoff boutique for entrance-making looks for Fashion Fête's front row, including the covetable Mondrian color-block shoulder bag. In the avant-garde art guard: chair husbands Will Stukenberg and Jared LeBlanc, DiverseWorks stalwart director Elizabeth Dunbar, Susanna Kise, Selma and Mustafa Tameez, Sarah and Fernando Aramburo, Ann Wilde, Amy Fleming, Kacey Miles, designer Hunter Martin, newlyweds Sarah Starry de Mendoza and Victor Mendoza, and David Leftwich with Lydia Hance. Save this date: Friday, November 7, at DiverseWorks, for Fashion Fête, billed as "a Rococo-inspired wonderland of art, fashion, dance and music."
