HOW WOULD YOU FARE IN THE COMPETITION? 1. "Woman in Art." An exhibition by this title happened in what year at CAMH? 2. Cy Twombly, whose work appears in the gallery, was known to have had an affair with this artist best known for his "combines." 3. The Americans was a famous 1958 photographic book by this photographer. 4. How many years does it take a diamond to form? 5. What year was Tenenbaum & Co. founded? SOCIAL SWANS + ART A-LISTERS A good party's composition is all in the mix, so stunning young socials such as Allie Fields and Lindley Arnoldy were paired with art-world insiders including CAMH senior curator Valerie Cassel Oliver, who represented the museum at this splendid shindig, and eminent gallerist to the Core Fellows Kerry Inman as well as collectors such as Leigh Smith, stalwart CAMH supporter Sissy Kempner, young-guard Leslie Ballard Hull, Barbara Gamson, and neighbor Marita Fairbanks (a previous AGN host). The result was a gathering headlined by beauty, wit and a high art IQ. And which table carried off the winning earrings, you ask? Drumroll: Henrietta Alexander, Gisela Cherches, Heidi Gerger, the aforementioned Kerry Inman, Julie Kinzelman, Glasstire's Rainey Knudson, Menil curator/mom-to-be Michelle White, Ann Wilde, and Geraldina Wise. THE NOCTURNE'S COMPOSITION The evening began with cocktails but very little chatter, as most of the 260 guests were scouring every nook of the grand art-packed Neoclassical residence in hopes of being one of the lucky gals at the winning table. You see, team members pool answers to vie for fabulous prizes sponsored by a rotating cast of posh annual retailers. Post-treasure hunt, attendees adjourned outside, where Rebekah Johnson of Bergner and Johnson devised a tented aerie that was an artwork in itself, mirroring the Pritchard casa's crisp black-and-white hues. The tablescapes' Picasso palette popped with lush pink roses, while delicate screens suspended overhead cast lacy shadows upon the diners, who supped upon A Fare Extraordinaire's epicurean feast. WHAT WENT DOWN AT THE TONY LADIES-ONLY PARTY BENEFITTING THE CONTEMPORARY ARTS MUSEUM HOUSTON. IT WAS … ANOTHER REALLY GREAT NIGHT JANUARY | PAGE 8 | 2015 A STORIED RESIDENCE + CHAIRS OF IMPORT For 20-some years, Another Great Night has been one of fall's most golden evenings on a very packed charity circuit for three unique reasons. (1) It was created as a spirited response to being left out of a gents-only affair planned by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. (2) Only ladies attend. (3) There's not a fancy invite. A plain announcement goes out on Contemporary Arts Museum Houston letterhead — and, faster than you can say Art Basel, it's a sellout. This year, seats were snapped up even more avidly due to the host — the under-the-radar, intensely private Susanne Pritchard — and the chance to peek into the beautiful Architectural Digest-featured house she shares with husband Bill Pritchard. Also contributing to the eager acquisition of tickets and tables were the super- connected chairmen: dermatologist to the It-girls Jennie Segal and her pals, interior designer Blakely Griggs and Cecilia Harris, whose company, Pedras Wine, graciously donated the free-flowing red vino. A VERRRRRY CONTESTED TREASURE HUNT The sponsor of the evening was none other than the estate jeweler to the old guard and new- monied sets, Tenenbaum & Co. which also provided an apt title for the fête: Art of Adornment. Beyond the lavish Tenenbaum- donated jewels that went to the art-smart gals at the winning table (18K gold earrings ringed with diamonds, set with luminous colored gemstones, each pair unique), Tony Bradfield and Kevin Black improvised dazzling displays, pairing photos of power ladies throughout history with exquisite suites of jewels that matched their inimitable styles. Small wonder there was a traffic jam around the sideboard and near a Lee Krasner canvas. Early in the evening, Bradfield and Black did a PA to greet the flock of femmes (along with museum director Bill Arning) before passing the bijoux baton for the night to Christina Stith, who directs sponsorships for their expansive bauble kingdom.
