AUGUST | PAGE 18 | 2015 CIAO BELLA, BAG-UETTES & CARVEY'S QUIPS BY JANE ROZELLE. PHOTOGRAPHY KRISTINA BOWMAN, SYLVIA ELZAFON, HAYNSWORTH PHOTOGRAPHY. NOT THEIR USUAL BAG AT HEROES FOR CHILDREN Heroes for Children switched things up this year and hosted an elegant evening to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Heroes and Handbags. Typically a luncheon where catfights have been rumored to happen over an especially winsome handbag for auction, the ladies traded in their claws and grabbed their other arm candy for an evening of dinner, dancing and, of course, shopping at the Hilton Anatole. Chairs Skye and William Brewer and Jennifer and Richard Dix, along with honorary chairs Tracy and Ben Lange joined guests as cocktails flowed, bids were placed and everyone got funky with featured band Dancing to Downtown Fever. Bag bidders: Samantha Wortley, Maggie Cooke Kipp, Tanya and Pete Foster, Jennifer Dix, Paige Westhoff, Sarah Miller, Isabell Novakov, Dee Simmons, Lisa and Clay Cooley, and Sarah Conway. LA VITA BELLA AT GREER GARSON GALA T he Omni Hotel was transformed into a slice of Tuscany for this year's Greer Garson Gala hosted by Texas Health Resources Foundation. Around 400 philanthropic guests found themselves transported to the Italian countryside with this year's theme, "La Bella Toscana." Benefitting the Margot Perot Center for Women and Infants at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, the heartfelt evening maintained its Italian pizazz, thanks to chairs Mary Ellen and William Kendall and this year's honorary chairs, Mayor Mike Rawlings and Micki Rawlings. The operatic stylings of Goga Denisov, who can sing in more than 12 languages, was a high note of the evening. Tuscan notes: Jim and Linda Knox, Lexi Moore, Aaron and Brooke Shelby, Charlie and Judee Shoup, Leslie Merrill, Kelly Crider, Briana Torres, Megan McGuire, and Karina and Horatio Lonsdale-Hands. DANA'S WORLD AT LAUNCHABILITY O ne might say that Ross Perot, George Bush, Johnny Carson, Garth Algar and Tom Brokaw were all in attendance at the annual fund-raiser for LaunchAbility, as the marvelous impersonator Dana Carvey was the evening's special guest. LaunchAbility CEO Kathryn Parsons, chairs Regina Montoya and Paul Coggins, honorary chairs Kathryn and Craig Hall, and a crowd of 500-plus guests at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, were captivated by the many quips Carvey concocted for the next three hours. All laughs: Anne and Steve Stodghill, Billy Gannon, Jim and Sharon Herrin, Clayton and Lacy Sands, Jeanne Marie Clossey, and Robbie and Skyler Baty.
