DOWN A FASHIONABLE RABBIT HOLE Highland Park Village has made myriad changes to its list of luxurious storefronts of late — and every time a retailer debuts, the fashion flock comes running. Many of the city's brightest young things turned out to welcome Alice + Olivia's first Texas boutique. Founder and designer Stacey Bendet embodies a certain je ne sais quoi, and what awaited partygoers beyond the glass façade — a whimsical mix of margaritas, music, fashion and fine art — was equally charming. A gentleman was even on hand to analyze guests' signatures. A nod to the New York- based brand's swoopy "handwritten" logo, perhaps? Spotted: Dallas manager Chelsea Krahenbuhl, Rachel Michell, Nancy Gopez, Meredith Brewer, Jill Gragg, Maggie Kincaid, Louisa Harwood, Kristina Wrenn, Dana Morrison, Debby Mullen, and Marianne Newson. DECEMBER | PAGE 12 | 2015 A PLACE OF WONDER To toast its Dallas entrée, Alice + Olivia has commissioned three pop-up art installations by local artists, each to be displayed in the store for three months. Rebecca Carter, whose work has been exhibited at the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center, kicked things off with a site-specific, thread-drawing installation, using words and phrases to evoke emotions in an unexpected location. Carter made her mark on Alice + Olivia in two ways: by her work, which was artfully displayed on the store's walls, and by selecting the opening-party beneficiary, Make Art with Purpose. The next two artists up are Sergio Garcia, whose Stace Face tricycle was inspired by Bendet's style, and Letitia Huckaby, whose sculptural gown work incorporates remnants of Alice + Olivia fabric.
