Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano's Floralis Genérica (2002) — a geometric silver flower with mobile petals that open and close by day and night — is a striking city landmark in Buenos Aires. H aving recently returned from a visit to Brazil (Fortaleza, Rio) and Argentina (Buenos Aires), I find myself daydreaming of long, lazy siestas and kaleidoscopic sunsets. The air is somehow thicker there, and the pace slower; the drinks are sweeter, and the people, warmer than the beaches themselves. There's always a samba beat somewhere, and with preparations for the Summer Olympic games underway in Rio, there's a certain buzz in the air. Fique tranquilo most easily translates to "Don't worry" in English. But in a less literal sense, it encapsulates the feeling of these South American cities perfectly. Despite the inherent contradiction, I've never been so relaxed and excited at the same time. It's the same feeling I get looking at some of this season's best ready-to-wear, Chloé and Dolce & Gabbana in particular. Hot hot hot! Urban street art in Rio de Janeiro. Dolce & Gabbana heel $1,895, at the Dolce & Gabbana boutique, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Webster. COURTESY VINCENT POULISSEN
