Rubble as art E verywhere we look these days, buildings are being reduced to rubble, with sleek new structures rising in their places. One in particular, a building that faced the PaperCity offices off Buffalo Speedway, caught our attention as it stood in a quasi-demolished state for several weeks before it finally went down. The more we looked at it, the more mesmerized we became: rebar protruding, concrete crumbling — a visual cacophony of sorts. And while it was interesting to examine, at the same time it's entirely unfamiliar. It takes the eye awhile to adjust. Similarly, many of-the- moment, avant-garde designers habitually turn out collections that at first seem discordant, with unfamiliar proportions and clamoring elements. Yet over time they settle, then rise, thoroughly modern and intriguing. STRUCTURAL INTERPRETATION No. 21 twist-front stiletto $569, at Laboratoria, Neiman Marcus. Céline quartz and bicolor brass earring $780, at the Céline boutique, Dallas. Maison Margiela mesh dress, Artisanal glass fragment plastron, cotton skirt with silver lining, and leather pump, all price upon request, at Sloan/Hall.
