This month, the charming (and over-the-top) Julian Leaver launches his own company, The Dapper Diplomat, which focuses full-time on wedding and event planning and design. "My approach is centered around listening to your dreams and pulling from the travels, architecture, interior design or art that inspires you, to create a bespoke, guest-focused event," he says. For 12 years, Leaver has burnished his résumé by staging weddings and events at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Rosewood Crescent hotel, as well as working closely with the talented Junior Villanueva at The Garden Gate and as director of weddings and events at Bella Flora. And, to gild the lily, he's an expert on all things etiquette and will be certified by the respected Protocol School of Washington later this fall. Julian Leaver, 214.908.7439, julianleaver.com. Gro Floral & Event Design, from husband-and-wife owners Nathan and Krisi Johnson, has gained a golden reputation for arranging blooms for top-tier weddings and the most elite events. (Inimitable hostess Nancy Rogers, known for her impeccable taste, called upon Gro to turn Oak restaurant into an explosion of flowers when she chaired The Family Place's ReUnite Gala. The result was a wonderland of hanging orchids, manicured topiaries and more.) Recently, Gro debuted a new showroom and design studio in Deep Ellum, where they hold flower- arranging classes — a fun, cathartic experience, where champagne is served and Nathan walks groups through the art of composing flowers. The classes, which are held regularly, can also be arranged for private groups. And, while we don't suggest you create your own bridal bouquet, the class would be an awfully chic way for a bride to celebrate her upcoming nuptials with her maids.
