Think REI meets River Oaks when Saint Bernard Sports opened in a whopping 14,000 square feet of real estate at Oliver McMillan's new luxury palace, River Oaks District, with a snow machine blowing frosty flakes. The opening fête brought in Saint Bernard Sport COO and heir-apparent Charlie Goyer with wife Ashleigh Goyer, whose parents, Anne and Wes Goyer, founded the outdoor sportswear company in 1978 in Dallas, its headquarters. Reef restaurant's chef, Bryan Caswell, served amazing cheddar biscuits stuffed with pulled pork, while precious Saint Bernard puppies scampered throughout the party. In keeping with retail neighbors Dior, Tom Ford and Cartier, Saint Bernard upgrades athletic wear and ski togs with luxe ski brands Obermeyer, Bogner, Nils, Spyder, Canada Goose and Rodd & Gunn, as well as après-ski labels Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, Lilly Pulitzer, Southern Tide, Hunter and Peter Millar. During ski season, a full-service ski shop befitting a top-tier resort offers tune-ups, waxing, adding and adjusting bindings — so you can hit the slopes as soon as wheels touch down. Grab hiking, camping and beaching gear, too, then take a breather in the lounge and sip a draft beer or coffee. A ll things were golden at River Oaks District for a festive evening that unveiled the District's luxe look book, The Gold Standard, photographed by Rocco Laspata at the architecturally significant Acido Dorado estate (designed by L.A. architect Robert Stone) located in the California desert area of the otherworldly Joshua Tree. In keeping with all things gold and otherworldly, Todd Events designed a tented pavilion, A Fare Extraordinaire performed catering honors, and the David Bowie tribute band Space Oddity paid homage to the thin white duke (RIP, Starman). Greeting guests were hostesses fitted in gold catsuits, along with Olivier McMillan's Charlotte Johnson and Colin Moussa, who makes everything happen at River Oaks District. Socials stepped out to drink in the District's rarefied air, and left with goodie bags stocked with the spring campaign catalogs, Diptyque candle, Etro clutch and L'Occitane and Tom Ford samples.
