Wells Design, founded more than 60 years ago by legendary Houston designer Herbert Wells, has long been a staple among Houston's upper crust. The new showroom stocks the Wells Design Collection of furniture, which is based on archival sketches hand-drawn by Herbert Wells himself, discovered last year while the company was moving its offices, as well as Ann-Morris Lighting, O. Henry House furnishings, Pintura Studio, and Vermilion Rugs. Romancing Banality: Nomadic artist Lyle Carbajal touches down at Art League Houston (through March 11). His ambitious exhibition, which opens a week after the inauguration, transforms the nonprofit into everything from an electronics repair shop in Mexico City to a Manila junk shop. He taps musical headliners (including Houston-based Yung Turk) to compose a rap opera and adds a film component to comment on personal and public spaces, and the urban fray Catherine D.
