With an almost dizzying lineup of events, exhibitions, speaker series, and more, the city is alive with local, national, and international visitors gathering for the Dallas Art Fair and related happenings. In its ninth year, the Dallas Art Fair hosts nearly 100 galleries, including the strongest international showing to date. Preview events begin Thursday, April 6, with the main fair extending through Sunday, April 9, at Fashion Industry Gallery. New this year is a music festival featuring local talent. The Dallas Music Experience, presented by Artist Uprising, is gratis to the public and takes place on the venue lawn Friday, April 7, 4 to 7 pm. More details at papercitymag.com. Also tracking the arts buzz this month is managing editor Linden Wilson, who introduces us to four visionaries — all with Texas ties — who are taking on the art world from Los Angeles to New York to a crawlspace turned art experience in Dallas. Admittedly, we kicked off Dallas Arts Month a bit early, with the mega- watt, PaperCity-sponsored MTV Re:Define Gala and Art Auction, which benefits Dallas Contemporary and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, an organization committed to HIV and AIDS prevention and education. Late last month, the sold-out event was a smash hit, chaired by our editor at large Max Trowbridge and featuring an outstanding art auction curated by Neville Wakefield.
